Insurance & expenses
General information
INSURANCE
In addition to the enrolment fees, you will have to pay the following fees when arriving at EMLYON Business School.
SECURITE SOCIALE ETUDIANTE FRANCAISE
It concerns the government health insurance which is compulsory for all foreign students staying more than 3 months at EMLYON. The annual contribution rises to about 195 € (192 € in 2007/2008); the insurance covers the period from October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009.
European students Students who belong to the European Economic Space (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Rumania, United Kingdom, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden) can be exempted.
Therefore, you must provide :
- The European Card (Carte Européenne d’Assurance Maladie) which covers you for your stay in France;
or
- an official document (with the official French translation) proving your own insurance which covers you during your stay in France.
If one of these documents is missing on the arrival at EMLYON, you will definitely have to sign up for the French Social Security. In this case, you will have to provide an Official Birth Certificate, with its French translation.
International students

Stay less than 3 months You will have to be covered by a private insurance. An official document, including the detailed list of the following incurred risks: accident, medical care, hospitalisation, repatriation, third-party liability, attached with the official French translation, will have to be presented to the Registrar Office.
If you were not covered by a private insurance, you will definitely have to sign up for the French Social Security.

COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH INSURANCE
It is possible to sign up for a complementary health insurance through the LMDE or SMERRA centers. This insurance will allow you to get a better refund of expensive medical cares: dental care, specialists,….
THIRD-PARTY LIABILITY
It concerns insurance in case you cause damage to a third-party. If you are not insured against this risk in your own country, you could be insured upon arrival at EMLYON through the AXA Insurance Company (7 € in 2007/2008).
ISIC CARD
In order to obtain your ISIC Card (International Student Identity Card), you must be insured for the entire length of your stay in France. This card cannot be delivered without the proof of your insurance coverage.
ADDITIONAL EXPENSES
A minimum amount of nearly 900 € per month is necessary to live in Lyon (rent, rental expenses, transport, food,…).
