EMLYON Business School inaugurates a new campus in Shanghai in partnership with East China Normal University
14/09/2007
With the launch of this new campus, EMLYON continues to further its activity in Asia.
The business school has been in China since 1997 and has built strategic partnerships with several prestigious universities of academic excellence: Fudan University - School of Economics, Jiao Tong University – Antai Business School and CEIBS in Shanghai and Zhejiang University – School of Management in Hangzhou and Zhongshan University and Lingnan College in Canton.
EMLYON’s strategy in China results from the analysis of two current trends:
On the one hand, the economic boom in China, the world’s 3rd largest economic power and the gradual integration of Asian economic and cultural models in the globalisation process have drastically altered traditional western perception.
Moreover, the cultural references in Europe and in the English-speaking world are in China confronted with values and approaches that are totally different.
Keeping these observations in mind, this campus aims at exposing the students to the Chinese culture in particular and to the East Asian culture in general. The innovative programmes taught on the campus ensure the students and participants of EMLYON a rich Asian cultural immersion.
From an academic point of view, the campus contributes to the development of research and furthers the understanding of elements that constitute the East Asian ethos, thus giving a better grasp of the different managerial practices in the region. The goal for the professors of the two faculties is to learn to work together so as to design and jointly develop an educational process that rises up to the challenges of globalisation.
The success of this decisive stage of the EMLYON project in China depends first and foremost on the quality of the relationship built with its partner, East China Normal University (ECNU). This institution, founded in 1951, is considered to be one the pioneers of higher education in China. A partner of the prestigious New York University, ECNU has already forged ties with the Rhône-Alpes region, through this cooperation with the ENS.
Beyond the operational aspects of the partnership, the relationship between EMLYON and ECNU is based on the values of reciprocity, and pooling skills, know-how and experience.
Following the official launch on September 14, a number of specific events will take place as early as November 2007 with the organisation of a one-week seminar at the EMLYON premises at ECNU for the participants of CPA (Executive Education), a management training programme. Students pursuing the specialised Master’s degree in “Strategy and International Business Development” will be the next to follow in December. In summer 2008, a first group of students of the Master of Science in Management (MSc) programme will leave for Shanghai. They will spend four months on the campus as part of this pilot phase.
It is during this year that course modules in economics, management and human resources will be designed in English for EMLYON and ECNU students.
Located in Shanghai, the campus is operational right from September 2007. It has direct access to the airports of this business capital, as well as to all modern equipment. Set at the heart of the East China Normal University, its environment is ideal for welcoming participants of both EMLYON initial training and executive education programmes.
