Tugrul Atamer est Doyen de la Faculté et professeur de management stratégique à EM LYON. Il est docteur et HDR en sciences de gestion de l'Université de Grenoble II. Il a été professeur visitant de 1996 à 2000 à l'Université de Caroline du Sud où il a donné des cours de stratégie internationale et de changement stratégique.
Il enseigne la stratégie, la stratégie internationale, le changement organisationnel et la mise en œuvre des stratégies globales dans les programmes MBA, Mastères et ESC. Il est co-directeur du DEA-GSE et responsable du séminaire " stratégie, structures et systèmes d'information ". Il a conçu et réalisé plusieurs séminaires pour les cadres dirigeants ou les futurs cadres dirigeants dans des entreprises européennes (Société Générale, Norbert d'Entressangle, Totalfina, Alcatel, Auchan…). Aux Etats-Unis, il a également réalisé des programmes sur mesure pour des sociétés américaines comme General Motors, Ingersoll Rand et Verizon. Tugrul Atamer a également des activités de conseil auprès des dirigeants d'entreprises pour faciliter la formulation de la stratégie ou pour accompagner la mise en œuvre de la stratégie. Il a notamment travaillé avec : Usinor-Mecagis, Esys-Montenay, Carrefour, Sodexho, Totalfina et Albert. Ses travaux portent essentiellement sur la dynamique internationale des industries, le changement organisationnel et les processus d'intégration horizontale dans les firmes multinationales. Il est co-auteur de trois livres (dont la deuxième édition de Diagnostic et Décisions stratégiques à paraître en février 2003 aux éditions Dunod). La première édition de ce livre a obtenu en 1993 le prix du meilleur livre de management de "Afplane - Les Echos". Tugrul Atamer est également l'auteur et le co-auteur de nombreux Articles publiés en anglais ou en français. Il est membre du comité éditorial de Journal of World Business .
