- The Entrepreneurial Process: Emergence and Evolution of New Firms in the Knowledge Intensive Economy: Delmar is the research leader and initiator of this effort. This research is based on register data from Statistics Sweden. At the moment we are studying every-one who is part in the science and technology labor force between 1990 and 2000 to determine their engagement in self-employment, firm creation and firm growth. The data set is unique as both processes at the firm level and at the individual level can be followed. The aim of the research is to develop entrepreneurship theory to take better account of the dynamics of the process. This research effort was initiated in cooperation with Prof. Per Davidsson and Prof. Johan Wiklund at the Jönköping International Business School, and Prof. Carin Holmquist and (SSE). Johan Wiklund also functions as research leader.
- National Panel Study of Swedish Business Start-ups: Team leader of the Swedish effort. The Swedish team is part of the Entrepreneurial Research Consortium (ERC). A representative sample of the Swedish adult population involved in business start-ups was identified in spring 1998 and six months follow-ups were over two years. The purpose of the project is to examine the process development for a random sample of start-ups to see which projects are developed into businesses and which projects are abandoned.
- Census Study of High-Growth Firms: This study is based on a data set comprising all firms in Sweden (i.e., companies in the legal meaning) that were active and had at least 20 employees as of November 1996. For all of these close to 12,000 firms, we have data tracking their development back to 1987 or, in case they were started later than that, to their first year in operation. This is research effort is done in cooperation with prof. Per Davidsson at the Jönköping International Business School. The purpose is to examine the job contribution, as well as the development of high-growth firms in the Swedish economy.
- Entrepreneurial Growth Motivation and Actual Growth: This is a smaller effort, which is a result of Delmar's doctoral dissertation. A random sample of 400 firms has been followed over four years in order to assess the growth motivation of the entrepreneurs and the resulting business growth.
